Review of Week 42:
WITNESSES: The method is simple. Come unto Jesus. Go into the world as His witnesses. Disciple, baptize, and teach all that He commands.
ATONEMENT: When we truly grasp the atonement, we worship. When we truly worship, we are sent out as witnesses.
HARVEST: The master knows where laborers are needed. We must be willing to work there.
GREATER WORKS: Our prayer is the connection with the Almighty that stabilizes and empowers us for greater works.
LOYALTY: Are we loyal to our preferences or to God’s purposes?
SOAKED: Have we taken the time to be fully saturated in God’s presence?
TRANSACT: The sanctification transaction requires humility, not pride.

Oct. 21 - BUILT on FAITH
Jude 1:20-21 “...But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life...”
Context:
Jude 1:3 “...I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints...”
Why contend? Jude 1:4 “...For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ...” [licentious: marked by disregard for strict rules of correctness]
Jude 1:5-6 “...Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,...”
Does being saved prevent later destruction? [not if there isn’t belief]
Jude 1:12 “...These are the men who are hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, caring for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted;...”
What can cause a faith shipwreck?
Jude 1:19 “...These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit...”
Who causes divisions? [worldly people without the Holy Spirit]
What does it mean to be built up on faith?
- the life of a disciple is a life of discipline, which is built by the Spirit over time.
Why is it important to be built up in faith?
- if we’re not, we act impulsively from our flesh
Why do impulse (an abrupt inclination) and temperament (characteristic or habitual inclination or mode of emotional response) fail us?
- they both arise from our fallen nature.
What does a strong desire to justify our actions usually indicate?
- ‘self awareness’ is trumping ‘other awareness’.
Is it easier to walk by faith in a crisis, or in the every day grind of life?
What have you “seen” lately that has rocked your world?
What have you “not seen” but hoped for with assurance? Hebrews 11:1 “...Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen...”
Are we building up our life on things seen or unseen?

Oct. 22 - ASSURED
Romans 8:16 “...The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,...”
When you hear conflicting reports, which do you believe?
What happens when we are led by the voice of the flesh?
Rom. 8:13 “...for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die;...”
Rom. 8:15 “...For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again...”
What happens when we surrender to the TRUTH of the Spirit?
Rom. 8:16 “...The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,...” Assurance of relationship with God.
Rom. 8:17 “...and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him...” Positioned as fellow heirs with Christ.
What is Oswald talking about when he refers to dangerously bartering and debating with God?
- we want the assurance and the inheritance on our terms, without doing our part.
What is our part?
Rom. 8:6-8 “...For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God...”
Rom. 8:17 “...and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him...”
We set our mind and we choose His course.
We are always confronted by witnesses, each with their own perspective on truth.
Who will we believe?
How can we be assured we are living in truth?
- we must surrender to God.
- we must die to self.
- we must be born again.
- we must be built up in faith.
- we must trust and obey, for there’s no other way.

Oct. 23 - NO PREJUDICES
2 Corinthians 5:17 “...Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come...”
What are prejudices?
- judgments made without having all the truth.
Do we have prejudices?
- political, religious, socioeconomic judgments without all the truth
How are prejudices developed?
- by listening to biased witnesses.
- by building a lifestyle based on experiences in the flesh.
- by regarding people according to the flesh.
How are prejudices destroyed?
- by listening to the truth.
- by living a Spirit led life.
- the old must pass away, the new must come.
2 Corinthians 5:18-21 “...Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him...”
Who initiated reconciliation? 5:18 “...these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ...”
Who is to carry on reconciliation? 5:18 “... and gave us the ministry of reconciliation...”
Who wants the world to be reconciled? God entrusts us with the message. 5:19,20 “... we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us...”
Are we the righteousness of God?
Oswald’s description of new creation life:
- no lust.
- no self interest.
- no sensitiveness to pokes.
- love that isn’t provoked.
- love that doesn’t think evil.
- love that is always kind.
Is there old life that has not yet died?
Would we rather have blessings or blessed assurance?
- are we looking for the blessings of God?
- are we assured by the sovereignty of God?

Oct. 24 - TRIUMPH
2 Cor. 2:14 “...But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place...”
Context:
- There was trouble in the church of Corinth.
- There was false teaching.
2:1-4 It was painful for Paul and painful for the Corinthians.
2:5-11 Paul wanted the Corinthians to forgive and comfort the troublemakers. Failure to forgive would result in being outwitted by Satan.
2:12-17 Things may not go as planned, but God, in Christ, always leads us in triumph. We are the aroma of Christ.
Are we watched? What do people see?
What are our lives supposed to produce?
- the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ ...everywhere!
What is the difference between obtaining personal victory and being led in triumphal procession?
   - our personal victories fall well short of God’s bigger goals.
   - proceeding through life with Christ as our leader accomplishes His bigger goals.
Oct. 25 - CHOSEN
1 Corinthians 9:22 ”...To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some...”
Context:
- Paul explains his rights.
- Paul surrenders his rights.
- Paul makes himself a servant of all to win as many as possible.
If we have an interest in something, we do it when it is convenient. If we have a conviction about something, we do it regardless of circumstances.
Do we live in an ideal world? An ideal community? An ideal church?
How can our preferences cause us to be “hustled out of usefulness to God”?
- We prefer to work where it is convenient.
- God wants us to work in our current ignoble setting.
1 Corinthians 9:23 “...I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it...”
Is this how we live?
Do we possess God, or does He possess us?
1 Corinthians 9:26-27 “...Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified...”
Are we fit for Kingdom work?
Have we chosen to work for God or has He chosen us for the work? What is the difference?

Oct. 26 - SENT
John 20:21 ”...So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you..."
Context:
- Mary Magdalene, Peter, and John find an empty tomb.
- Mary mistakes Jesus for the gardener.
- The disciples are hiding behind locked doors for fear of the Jews.
- Jesus makes an appearance, breathes on them, and says “Receive the Holy Spirit”
John 20:23 “...If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained..."
What is He sending them to do?
- What the Father sent Jesus to do - forgive sins.
Are there a few problems in our world?
Are there a few people in need?
Does it matter whether we’re inspired from before or inspired from behind?
What happens when we are inspired by what we see before us?
- we look at human need.
- we formulate plans to meet that need.
- we also formulate a perception of what success will look like.
What happens when we are inspired by what we see behind us?
- we look at what the Father sent Jesus to do.
- we identify with God’s purposes.
- we bring God’s purposes to our present world.
How can human sympathy interfere with fulfilling the purposes of God?
- we try to elevate people.
- we try to educate people.
- we try to meet needs.
- we can misplace the central truth of the gospel.
Why do you think the Father sent the Son? [for God so loved the world]
Why do you think the Son sends you? [for God so loved the world]
Do we love as God loves?
Are we about His business?

Oct. 27 - MAKE DISCIPLES
Matthew 28:18-20 “...And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age..."
Is it our job to save souls? Can we save anyone?
John 3:3 “...Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God..."
John 6:44 “...No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day...”
John 6:63 “...It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life...”
John 6:65 “...And He was saying, "For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father..."
Oswald says “there is a passion for souls that does not spring from God, but from the desire to make converts to our point of view”.
Does this happen? Do we ever participate in this?
Matthew 4:23 “...Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people...”
What was Jesus doing? [teaching, proclaiming the gospel, healing]
Matthew 7:21 ”...Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter...”
Who gets to enter the kingdom of heaven? [those who do the will of the Father]
Matthew 9:35 ”...Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness...”
Again, what was Jesus doing? [teaching, proclaiming the gospel, healing]
Matthew 10:1 “...Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness...”
Matthew 10:7-8 “...And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give...”
John 14:12 “...Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father...”
What did Jesus expect from His disciples?
What does Jesus expect from His disciples?
Are we teaching, proclaiming the gospel, and healing?
Are we trying to make converts to our point of view, or disciples of Jesus Christ?

Review of Week 41:
BE RECONCILED: Burying our sin nature with Christ, we can be reconciled to God and we can carry on the ministry of reconciliation.
COME: Jesus gives us the chance to come to Him.
PRESENT YOURSELF: We either present ourselves as slaves to righteousness or as slaves to impurity.
REPENT / OBEY: Repentance is the start. Obedience turns on the light of the world.
WAIT: Can we trust Him when He makes us wait?
WALK: We need to learn to walk. We need to keep stride with Jesus.
TIMING: God’s timing is not our timing. Staying in stride with Jesus may involve waiting.

Oct. 14 - WITNESSES
Context:
- Jesus has been raised from the dead.
- these are the verses usually entitled “The Great Commission”.
What were the instructions?
1. Make disciples of all nations.
2. Baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
3. Teach to observe all that Jesus commanded.
Why are we to go?
- He did His part. He has all authority.
- He is Lord of all and He tells us to go.
- We are to do our part.
How are “come unto Me” and “go therefore” related?
- we are ill equipped to go if we haven’t first worshiped Him.
- when we are exposed to who He is, we will be sent out.
- AND, He will be with us!
Acts 1:8 ”...but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth..."
Is He describing a systematic way of evangelizing the world? [not really]
What does He want disciples to do? [be witnesses]
What do witnesses do? [testify to the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth]
What does it take to be a good witness?
- involvement with Jesus.
- power of the Holy Spirit.

Oct. 15 - ATONEMENT
1 John 2:1-6 “...My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked...”
Advocate: One who intercedes on behalf of another.
Propitiation: The act of atoning for sin or wrongdoing.
The Holiness of God demands that sinning has consequences.
Ezekiel 18:20 “...The person who sins will die ...the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself...”
Romans 1:18 “...For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,...”
2 Corinthians 5:21 “...He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him...”
How does preaching the goodness and kindness of Jesus fall short of the true gospel?
- He is good and kind, but the good news is the full message of Jesus’ Incarnation, Atonement, and Resurrection.
When we truly grasp the atonement, we worship (come to Him).
When we truly worship, we are sent out as witnesses (go therefore).

Oct. 16 - HARVEST
Matthew 9:38 ”...Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest..."
Context:
35 - Jesus taught and proclaimed the gospel of the kingdom.
36 - Jesus had compassion on harassed and helpless people.
37 - Jesus recognized the need for laborers.
Are people harassed and helpless?
Is there a need for:
- proclaiming the kingdom gospel?
- healing disease and affliction?
Why is prayer absurd from the ordinary common sense viewpoint?
- there’s work that needs doing.
- talking doesn’t get the work done.
For what does Jesus tell us to pray?
- laborers in the harvest.
- prayer focused on others needs, not ours.
Is all church work harvest labor?
What do you think harvest labor looks like?
Are we laboring correctly?
Does the master know where your labors are needed?
Are we willing to work there?

Oct. 17 - GREATER WORKS
John 14:12 “...Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father...”
Context:
- Jesus explains that He is the way, the truth, and the life.
- He is the only way to the Father.
Is Jesus the way we live?
Is Jesus the truth we live?
Is Jesus the life we live?
Does Jesus expect us to do the same things He did on this earth? [yes, and greater works].
Why? John 14:13 “...Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son...”
Why does Oswald say “only a child gets prayer answered?
- as we grow in the Lord, we find that prayer is the basis of all we do, not all we receive.
- our prayer is the connection with the Almighty that stabilizes and empowers us as we face circumstances and embrace opportunities.
Without prayer, we’re like an army without a supply line or a plan.

Oct. 18 - LOYALTY
3 John 1:7 “...For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles...”
Context: Discussion on supporting workers.
What are God’s interests in other people? [their potential, their purpose]
What are your interests in other people? [our intentions, our pleasure]
Are they the same?
When we interact with people, do we have our interests or God’s in mind?
Does our detachment from things that God dislikes lead to detachment from those that God loves?
Are we ordinary people who have been given an extraordinary mission of reconciliation?
Are we giving it our Utmost?
Are we loyal to our preferences or to God’s purposes?

Oct. 19 - SOAKED
John 18:36 “...Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm..."
Context: Jesus is being interrogated by Pilate.
Pharisees practice their religion to be seen by men.
Pharisees like to be seen in the ‘shop window’ of this present world.
Jesus didn’t focus on the present world’s system. "My kingdom is not of this world”.
What does it mean to “be put into soak before God”?
- to come unto Him.
- to separate from the oppressive external forces of this world to be internally changed in the presence of God.
- to be saturated with His reality.
Do we get to choose our circumstances?
Are we affected by our circumstances?
Are circumstances easier to face if we have soaked with God?
- circumstances can still be difficult
- remaining true to God requires a root system that is only developed by soaking.

Oct. 20 - TRANSACT
1 Thessalonians 4:3 “...For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;...”
Context: verses 1-12
- Paul talking about “how you ought to walk”.
- about pleasing God ...more and more.
- about controlling yourself ...in holiness and honor.
- about not “wronging a brother”.
- about brotherly love.
- about minding your own affairs.
- about walking properly.
What is the difference between longing for something and making the transaction?
- longing is stuck in the thinking stage.
- the transaction is action.
Why does the sanctification transaction require humility rather than pride?
- James 4:6 “...But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble..."
- 1 Peter 5:5 ”...be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble...”
- Holiness requires agonizing repentance, shame, and degradation.
What does the sanctification transaction cost you?
- to be set apart for God we can’t be set apart for self.
- self will must be given up.

Review of Week 40:
CRUSHED: Crushing may hurt, but it has its purpose. The mystery (Christ in you) is revealed as we proclaim, admonish, and teach.
SEE/CARE: We need to get past knowledge to character. We need to do our part in the valleys and the plains.
NEED: The world needs what we find to be true on the mountain.
HELP: Are we willing and able to help a troubled world.
TOGETHER: We’re not alone, and it’s not about us. We must work together.
MY SIN: My sin can be immorality and wrongdoing, or pompous religious blether. Both require the sacrifice of Christ and my surrendering control.
RE-GENED: Our body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. Our disposition must be regenerated.

Oct. 7 - BE RECONCILED
2 Corinthians 5:21 ”...He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him...”
What is the difference between wrong doing and wrong being?
How is what we do a result of what we are?
How is the Bible’s approach to sin different than religious dealings with sins?
- sins are the result of a sin nature.
- external dealings with sins leaves the sin nature intact.
- Jesus took the sin nature to the cross.
How was the cross an act beyond sympathy?
- Jesus didn’t just feel sorry for humanity.
- Jesus identified with the human sin nature and took it to judgment.
2 Corinthians 5:16-20 ”...Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God...”
- what does it mean to be a new creation?
- are we being trustworthy with the message of reconciliation?
Romans 6:1-14 ”...What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace...”
God’s part?
- Jesus died on the cross, paying the penalty for sin.
- Jesus rose from the dead.
Our part?
- to be buried with him by baptism into death.
- no longer enslaved to sin.
- be reconciled and carry on the ministry of reconciliation.

Oct. 8 - COME
Matthew 11:28 “...Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest...”
How does getting Jesus to come to our situation differ from coming to Jesus?
- we almost always want Jesus to come to us.
- we’re rarely ready to leave our priorities to come to Jesus.
How do we dispute rather than come?
How do we go through sorrow rather than come?
Who must put the axe to the root of the reason we don’t come to Jesus?
Matthew 3:10 “...The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire...”
How do we identify the root?
- if we have a healthy conscience, the Holy Spirit let’s us know.
  • if we don’t have a healthy conscience, and don’t hear God clearly, we should be on our knees in repentance.
Oct. 9 - PRESENT YOURSELF
Romans 6:19 ”...I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification...”
Who makes atonement for sin? Who redeems the world?
Who rights wrongs? Who makes the unholy holy?
Can we do any of these things? [this is God’s work]
What can we do?
- present our members as slave to sin, with increasing selfish focus.
- present our members as slaves to righteousness, with increasing God focus.
Romans 6:12-13 “...Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God...”
Does God work through people?
Does Satan work through people?
Who is working through us?
Why must the Atonement always be the central point of our lives?
- Jesus redeems the world, rights wrongs, and imputes holiness.
- Without the blood of Jesus, we’re just a lot of pious blether.

Oct. 10 - REPENT / OBEY
Matthew 11:25 ”...At that time Jesus said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants...”
Context:
11:1-19 Jesus describes the ministry of John the Baptist. What was John’s message? [repent]
11:20-24 Jesus denounces Chorazin and Bethsaida because of their response to his mighty works. What did they NOT do? [repent]
Is it complicated to follow Jesus?
Does it require a great deal of knowledge?
Why does the Lord of heaven and earth hide things from the wise and understanding?
- they are focused on self, self worth, and self attainment.
- they are unrepentant in their approach.
Ephesians 3:14-19 ”...For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God...”
How are we strengthened? [with power through His Spirit in our inner being]
How are we rooted and grounded? [by Christ dwelling in us through faith]
How important is agape? [it surpasses knowledge]
What is the result of being strengthened, rooted, grounded, and loved? [filled with all the fullness of God]
Is knowledge important?
2 Peter 1:3-8 “...seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ...”
- knowledge needs to be increasing to keep us from being useless and unfruitful.
- the knowledge we need is “true knowledge of our Lord Jesus”.
How is your understanding of a dark room affected by turning on a light?
How is your understanding of life affected by walking in obedience? [it turns on the light of the world]

Oct. 11 - WAIT
John 11:6 ”...So when He heard that he was sick, He then stayed two days longer in the place where He was...”
Context:
- Jesus loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.
- Lazarus becomes ill.
- Mary and Martha send word to Jesus about his sickness.
- Jesus waits until Lazarus dies.

Why did Jesus wait?
John 11:4 “...But when Jesus heard this, He said, "This sickness is not to end in death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it..."
- The glory of God was to be revealed.
What was it like from the sisters’ point of view?
- they had a need.
- they sent for Jesus.
- He didn’t come soon enough.
Why didn’t He come sooner?
- God had other plans.
Have you ever had a need, asked Jesus to come quickly, and He didn’t?
Is waiting easy?
Which are more important, our needs or God’s plans?
Do we trust Him? Do we trust Him when things don’t go according to our plans?
Can silence be an answer? Can we remain faithful during silence?

Oct. 12 - WALK
Genesis 5:24 ”...Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him...”
Of all the Bible characters, whose life would you most prefer to live?
Adam - cast out.
Noah - total change of normal.
Moses - dealt with stiff necked people.
David - disfunctional family.
Solomon - 1000 wives.
Daniel - served nasty, pagan kings.
Jesus - died a cruel death.
Disciples - tremendous persecution.
Enoch walked with God and was no more.
Why is it difficult for an infant to walk with a parent?
- they don’t know how to walk.
Why is it difficult for a toddler to walk with a parent?
- they have short wobbly legs.
Why is it difficult for a teenager to walk with a parent?
- they are distracted by other things.
When is it difficult for us to walk with God?
- if we haven’t yet learned to walk.
- if we’re still wobbly.
- if we’re distracted by other things.
What happens when we get in stride with Jesus?
- it’s not about us anymore.
- like Enoch, we are no more.
Can we learn to walk with God by talking about it?
- until we get out on our wobbly legs, we never make progress in learning to walk.

Oct. 13 - TIMING
Exodus 2:11 “...Now it came about in those days, when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brethren and looked on their hard labors; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren...”
Context:
- Moses was raised in Egyptian royalty, but was actually an Israelite.
- The Israelites were in grievous bondage to the Egyptians.
- Moses came to a realization of the cruelty.
- He took matters into his own hands and killed an Egyptian.
Was Moses out of step in his walk with God?
Did God know about the cruelty to the Israelites?
Did God have intentions of delivering Israel? Genesis 15:13 “...God said to Abram, "Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, where they will be enslaved and oppressed four hundred years...”
Did God intend to use Moses?
Did Moses need to wait for God’s timing?
Do we ever see cruelty?
Does God have intentions of using us?
Are we waiting for God’s timing?
How long are we willing to wait?
Does our slow character development make our wait longer?
Is our character development a priority to God?
How long did it take God to develop Moses’ character?
