Hebrews 11:6 “...without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him...”
Romans 10:17 “...faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ...”
Isaiah 42:6,21,23 “...I am the Lord, I have called You in righteousness, I will also hold You by the hand and watch over You... The Lord was pleased for His righteousness' sake To make the law great and glorious ...Who among you will give ear to this? Who will give heed and listen hereafter?...”
2 Timothy 3:16,17 “...All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work...”
John 8:31-32 “...So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free..."
It's not about learning what everyone else believes. It's about learning to hear, learning to see, and learning to obey the Lord of the Universe.
We're not trying to take possession of God's story, we're trying to be a faithful part of it.
Read the account of the disciples found in Mark 4:35-41. If you also read into chapter 5, you'll see that the trip was made so Jesus could cast a Legion of demons out of a man. Jesus was about the Father's business, bringing freedom to those who were bound.
Will we row His boat or do we want Him to row ours? He won’t force us. If we choose His boat, we’re in the middle of His purposes, laboring, sometimes confused, but with Him. If we choose our own boat, we’re trying to find meaning in things that won't bring lasting contentment. Do we really think he'll captain our cruise ship?
Now read Matthew 9:35-38. Will we work in His fields, or do we just want him to bless our fields? Or maybe we'd rather just feast at His table? We must choose.
I'd like to strongly suggest that our goals in reading through the Bible must be to find God's heart and purposes, and to join him. Choose you this day.
