Giving
All:
Context:
- Jesus positioned himself opposite the treasury to do some people watching.
- The rich people put large sums into the treasury.
- A poor widow put in two copper coins, worth a penny.
- Remember that Jesus had just told His disciples to “...beware of the scribes ... who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense...”
Mark
12:43-44 “...And he called his disciples to him and said to
them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than
all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all
contributed out of their abundance, but she out
of her poverty has put in everything she had,
all she had to live on..."
Luke
21:3-4 “...And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow
has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of
their abundance, but she out of her poverty put
in all she had to live on..."
Do
you think the widow’s mite was spent wisely by those in charge of
the treasury?
Did
Jesus say the widow was foolish for giving her all?
Is
Jesus watching us?
- Mark 4:22 "...For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light...”
- Matthew 28:20 “...And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age...”
- Hebrews 7:25 “...Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them...”
- Jesus is absolutely involved in our lives.
What
does Jesus think about our giving?
Do
we give out of our abundance?
Do
we give our all?
