Praise Him (Psalms 76-105)

Ps.76

76:8,9 "... You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; The earth feared and was still When God arose to judgment, To save all the humble of the earth. Selah..."

Which way are we heading, to judgment or to salvation?

How is this determined?

Ps.77

77:3 "...When I remember God, then I am disturbed; When I sigh, then my spirit grows faint. Selah..."

Why would remembering God cause one to be disturbed?

77:6 "...I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart, And my spirit ponders:..."

Do we take time to meditate? To ponder?

77:9 "...Has God forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion? Selah..."

Why would God withdraw His compassion?

Ps.78

78:5 "...For He established a testimony in Jacob And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers That they should teach them to their children,..."

Why the command to teach children?

78:6,7,8 "...That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, That they may arise and tell them to their children, That they should put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments, And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not prepare its heart And whose spirit was not faithful to God..."

What happened instead?

78:22 "...Because they did not believe in God And did not trust in His salvation..."

78:37 "...For their heart was not steadfast toward Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant..."

78:40 "...How often they rebelled against Him in the wilderness And grieved Him in the desert!..."

78:42 "...They did not remember His power, The day when He redeemed them from the adversary,.."

78:58 "...For they provoked Him with their high places And aroused His jealousy with their graven images...."

Do we believe, trust, and remember His power? Or do we rebel, forget, provoke and arouse His jealousy?

Ps.79

79:10 "...Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let there be known among the nations in our sight, Vengeance for the blood of Your servants which has been shed..."

Ps.80

80:3 "...O God, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved..."

80:7 "...O God of hosts, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved..."

80:19 "...O Lord God of hosts, restore us; Cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved..."

Ps.81

God would like us do our part:

81:8 "...Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you would listen to Me!.."

81:9 "...Let there be no strange god among you; Nor shall you worship any foreign god..."

81:13 "...Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!..."

Then He would do His part:

81:14 "...I would quickly subdue their enemies And turn My hand against their adversaries..."

81:16 "...But I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, And with honey from the rock I would satisfy you..."

From where does satisfaction come? From where do people seek it?

Ps.82

82:2-4 "...How long will you judge unjustly And show partiality to the wicked? Selah. Vindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute. Rescue the weak and needy; Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked..."

What stance does God take? What stance do you take?

Ps.83

Request for God to deal with the enemies. Why?

83:18 "...That they may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord, Are the Most High over all the earth..."

Ps.84

84:6 "...Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring; The early rain also covers it with blessings..."

Baca (weeping) - We go through this, just like Achor (trouble), into hope and blessings.

84:10 "...For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness..."

84:11 "...For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly..." Believe it!

Ps.85

85:6 "...Will You not Yourself revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?..."

What is the end result of revival?

85:9 "...Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land..."

Ps.86

86:11 "...Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name..."

There's much to learn.

What's the difference between a divided and a united heart?

Ps.87

The city of God, the holy mountain. Messianic

87:6 "...The Lord will count when He registers the peoples, "This one was born there." Selah..."

What is this saying?

Ps.88

The Selahs are following God's wrath and question how departed spirits can bring Him praise.

Do we praise Him, praise Him, praise Him in everything?

Ps.89 Messianic

89:1 "...I will sing of the lovingkindness of the Lord forever; To all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth..."

89:5 "...The heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones. .."

89:14 "...Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You..."

89:24 "...My faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him, And in My name his horn will be exalted..."

From God to David

89:36,37 The throne of David is established forever.

And yet there is a sense that God is hiding himself. 89:46 "...How long, O Lord? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your wrath burn like fire?..."

Can God be doing something with eternal significance while people on earth struggle to even recognize His existence?

BOOK DIVISION! Starts with a prayer of Moses

Ps.90

90:12 "...So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom..."

Life is fleeting, so make the most of it.

Ps.91

91:1 "...He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty..."

91:9,10 "...For you have made the Lord, my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place. No evil will befall you, Nor will any plague come near your tent..."

Why is there evil and plagues?

Where are we dwelling?

91:14-16 "...Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. "He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. "With a long life I will satisfy him And let him see My salvation..."

His Part? [deliver, set securely, answer, rescue, satisfy]

Our Part? [love Him, know Him, call, see]

Ps.92

92:9 "...For, behold, Your enemies, O Lord, For, behold, Your enemies will perish; All who do iniquity will be scattered..."

92:12 "...The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon..."

92:14 "...They will still yield fruit in old age; They shall be full of sap and very green,.."

Ps.93

93:1 "...The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved..."

How firmly?

Ps.94

The wicked:

94:4 "...They pour forth words, they speak arrogantly; All who do wickedness vaunt themselves..."

94:5 "...They crush Your people, O Lord, And afflict Your heritage..."

But:

94:11 "...The Lord knows the thoughts of man, That they are a mere breath..."

94:14 "...For the Lord will not abandon His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance..."

94:19 "...When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul..."

Ps.95 An invitation to worship

95:6 "...Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker..."

Ps.96

96:1-3 "...Sing to the Lord a new song; Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples..."

96:10 "...Say among the nations, "The Lord reigns; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity..."

Ours is not a private faith - the world needs to know about it.

New song in heaven in Rev.5:9 when the Lamb takes the scroll.

Ps.97

97:1 "...The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; Let the many islands be glad..."

97:12 "...Be glad in the Lord, you righteous ones, And give thanks to His holy name..."

Ps.98

98:1 "...O sing to the Lord a new song, For He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him..."

Ps.99

99:5 "...Exalt the Lord our God And worship at His footstool; Holy is He..."

99:8 "...O Lord our God, You answered them; You were a forgiving God to them, And yet an avenger of their evil deeds..."

Two sides of God?

Ps.100

100:2 "...Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing..."

Make sure there is delight in your duty.

100:3 "...Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture..."

Anybody want to take credit for what God has done?

Ps.101

101:3 "...I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not fasten its grip on me..."

101:7 "...He who practices deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who speaks falsehood shall not maintain his position before me..."

Ps.102 Messianic

102:1,2 "...Hear my prayer, O Lord! And let my cry for help come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress; Incline Your ear to me; In the day when I call answer me quickly..."

Are there times He hides His face?

102:20,21 "...To hear the groaning of the prisoner, To set free those who were doomed to death, That men may tell of the name of the Lord in Zion And His praise in Jerusalem,.."

Why set free? [that His name would be proclaimed, He would receive praise, and He would be served.

Ps.103

We should be blessing the Lord with all that we are and all that we have.

103:8 "...The Lord is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness..."

103:10 "...He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities..."

103:12 "...As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us...."

Who got dealt our sin? Where did it go?

103:17,18 "...But the lovingkindness of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children, To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts to do them..."

Who gets the lovingkindness?

Ps.104

Proclaiming God's hand in creation (not chance).

Recognizing His hand in sustaining creation (still here).

Recognizing the creation's dependence upon God.

104:33 "...I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being..."

104:34 "...Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the Lord..."

Ps.105

105:4 "...Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually. Remember His wonders which He has done, His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth,..."

Another whole section that recounts the history of Israel.

What should we remember? [Americans might remember the foundation of the nation. Christians should remember the coming of Christ and His delivering from sin]
