WAITING
- to be strengthened and directed.
Isaiah 40:31 “...Yet
those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get
tired, They will walk and not become weary...”
Context:
- the glory of the Lord
shall be revealed (40:5)
- the word of our God
will stand forever (40:8)
- he will tend his flock
like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms (40:11)
- it is he who brings
princes to nothing and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness
(40:21,-23)
- he gives power to the
faint and to him who has no might he increases strength (40:29)
So much to do, so little
time.
So many wrongs to be
righted. So many cares that need compassionate time.
Once there is a
willingness, how does one prioritize and proceed?
It is God who gives power
and increases strength, but we must WAIT for it.
Acts 1:4-5 “...Gathering
them together, He commanded them not to leave
Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had
promised, "Which," He said, "you heard of from Me; for
John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the
Holy Spirit not many days from now..."
- Jesus instructed His
disciples to wait for the promise, the Holy Spirit.
Psalms 25:3 “...Indeed,
none of those who wait for You will be ashamed;
Those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed...”
Psalms 37:7 “...Rest
in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do
not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because
of the man who carries out wicked schemes...”
Psalms 62:5 “...My
soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope
is from Him...”
Psalms 119:114 “...You
are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word...”
Psalms 147:11 “...The
Lord favors those who fear Him, Those who wait for His
lovingkindness...”
Lamentations 3:25 “...The
Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who
seeks Him...”
What makes us so
impatient that we try to tackle things prematurely?
What can we accomplish
with our own strength?
What happens when we grow
impatient and refuse to wait?
